) firmly believes that Somalia’s problems can neither be solved by secession nor by the
force of arms. The only viable route to salvation is through dialogue and real reconciliation among all the Somali
people of all regions and clans.
The idea that the illegitimate entity of “Somaliland” can be sustained as a model for the rest of Somalia is just
outright wrong. It is illegal, un-ethical, and un-democratic to say the least.
Its existence is itself untenable, let alone be an example!
The truth is that “Somaliland” is comprised of five administrative regions inhabited by five Somali clans.
Namely, the ISSA and GADABURSI clans in the AWDAL region to the west , the ISAQ clan in the central
regions of NORTHWEST and TOGDHEER , and the DHULBAHANTA and WARSENGELI clans in the
eastern regions of SOOL, CAYN and SANAAG.
The fact is that three (west and east) out of the five regions and four (Issa, Gadabursi, Warsangali, Dhulbahanta)
out of the five clans oppose secession and spire for a united, peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Somalia.
We look forward to a Somalia where the law of the rule, good governance, sound stewardship of economy and
environment and the promotion of personal freedoms and the protection of minority right are not only preached
but practiced.
However, it disheartening to see that many international organizations, agencies, NGOs have bought into this
false premise of helping “Somaliland” with its peaceful and democratic progress!
It is unfortunate that the EU and the afore-said organizations are subjugating and compelling the people of Sool,
Sanaag and Cayn as well as other clans who are not part of the secession to be part of “Somaliland”, through
financing the clan-based elections of “Somaliland”.
It is obvious that those who are assisting “Somaliland” elections are misled through the secessionist’s mendacious
and illegal claims that “Somaliland” is monolithic and democratic.
Where is the democracy when a majority of the clans and regions oppose the very idea of a northern secession
(Somaliland)? Where is the peace when large areas of the eastern regions of SOOL and SANAAG have been
invaded and occupied by militias from the NORTHWEST and TOGDHEER regions first in 1991, then in 2004
and 2007?
